Millicent Fawcett (1847-1929), British feminist and suffragist, intellectual, political and union leader, and writer.
She campaigned tirelessly to improve women’s opportunities for higher education and, in 1875, co-founded Newnham College, Cambridge. She later became president of the National Union of Women’s Suffrage Societies (the NUWSS) which helped women win the right to vote. Fawcett was appointed a Dame Grand Cross of the Order of the British Empire (GBE) in 1925.
